After reading and loving Kristen Callihan's Game On series, I was excited to see a new series in which to get hooked! I love her writing style because of the witty characters and great romance stories so I eagerly pre-ordered Idol. I feel this book fits nicely in the New Adult genre of books because the protagonists are in their mid-20s but since they are slightly older than college students, this book doesn't have the same college vibe as other books in this genre do. Instead, it's a bit more mature as the protagonists work on figuring out their lives and what makes them happy."Music can be your friend when you have none, your lover when you're needy. Your rage, your sorrow, your joy, your pain. Your voice when you've lost your own. To be a part of that, to be the soundtrack of someone's life, is a beautiful thing."
Killian James is the lead singer and guitarist for the band Kill John, the hottest and most popular rock group in the world. He loves music and performing but when tragedy strikes the band, they all take some time off to heal. Killian winds up drunk and wakes up on Liberty Bell's lawn in North Carolina to her spraying water in his face. Libby is a snarky little firecracker who prefers to keep to herself in her small town country lifestyle but finds herself warming up to Killian. She has no idea who he is but he falls in love with her homemade biscuits and wham, the lawn bum and Elly May discover they have feelings for each other. Suddenly, their lives are about to change and they will find out if their love can endure the demands of a lifestyle where everyone is always watching them.
"Sometimes all it takes in life is to decide to own it."
Overall, I enjoyed this book and recommend it if you have read and liked some of Kristen Callihan's other books. It's written in a similar style as the Game On series with the snarky, witty dialogue and lots of hilarious, laugh-out-loud moments but instead of football, it's music. There are a lot of great references to many of the classic musicians and to someone who loves to listen to music, this book was definitely a fun read. The characters were funny, the romance was steamy, and the music was good. I didn't find this book to be as much of a page-turner as the Game On series but I still enjoyed it and plan to read the other books in the series. It was a fun read, perfect for summer!

Idol VIP Book 1 edition by Kristen Callihan Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
I loved everything about Idol, the story line, the characters, the supporting cast, the humor & the chemistry between Killian and Liberty. (hot hot hot) I also appreciate that this is a "whole" book, doesn't end in a cliffhanger and not overrun with angst. I've never read a book by Kristen Callihan and I debated before I hit buy but I'm so glad I did! She is an excellent author who hooked me from page one and kept me interested till the end. Thank you for an awesome read Kristen. This won't be the last book I buy. I can't wait to read about Scottie.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. A contemporary rock star romance with the music theme done right.
I don't know if the author is herself a musician or if she did some excellent research. But I very much appreciate the authenticity she brought to the story.
Our heroine captured my heart from the very start. <--- That is unusual for me as I generally have a hard time connecting with heroines in a romance novel. Yet, Libby was awesome from start to end. ---adjective time! *rubs hands happily* Honest, forthright, secure, caring, supportive, self-aware, independent. <--- That was Libby. <3
Our rock star, Killian (cool name) is not only swoon worthy as a music idol, he is swoon worthy as a person. Strong, brave, talented, level-headed, sweet and caring. A lovely young man.
They meet under less than perfect circumstances but their natures allow them to quickly form a friendship. One that slowly but surely turns into something more as they discover their mutual love of music. They encourage and support each other. It's beautiful to see.
This would be a five star rating from me except for a half dozen or so typos and use of a miscommunication device in a story that could easily have done without it.
A big four stars from me for this delightful contemporary romance.
I think I "have to" read Scottie's story next. Out of all the characters, Gabriel Scott intrigued me the most with his 3-piece bespoke suits, English accent and extreme physical beauty. He is an enigma that I have to find the answer to.
