Lies She Never Told Me A Michael Gresham Prequel Michael Gresham Legal Thrillers Book 10 edition by John Ellsworth Literature Fiction eBooks

I'm not saying it's my last, but this one was pretty bad. First, it's a little confusing that there's a whole Michael Greshem series starting with 31 and this is also a #1. I also understand that this would be a more enjoyable book for people who already know these characters to see where they began. But that's not the problem with this book. It's the ridiculousness.

First the children. Even if we ignore the fact that the children are at least light brown when their parents are apparently super white, what about their ages? Natalia says that they will just say the children were born before she was sick. "Oh what a cute baby. How old is he?" "Uhh he's five." We aren't talking lying about a few months so junior doesn't know mommy and daddy weren't quite married, we are talking five years.

What happened to the trust funds set up by Martha's father for the children? Cincy has a very sick child and needs a lot of money, and nobody mentions the trust fund set up 40 years ago?

Then we get to the pinnacle of ridiculous. The antics of Michael and Marcel and the confession. How exactly was that supposed to work out? They had no plan for when the guy said, "Ummm they cut off my right nut and threatened to cut off the other one if I didn't confess." Not even lying. "Did you do that?" "Yes. Damn they outsmarted us."

And please with the historical fiction. Dropping people and events into a story and then leaving them behind does not count.

Lies She Never Told Me A Michael Gresham Prequel Michael Gresham Legal Thrillers Book 10 edition by John Ellsworth Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

John Ellsworth has written many books, and all of them are in my “favorite books”collection. This book is no exception and actually is at the top of the list for favorite books!

The historical background of Michael Gresham and Marcel just makes all the other Gresham books come into a sharper focus.

Well written! No editorial errors (which seems to have become something we find noteworthy and not the norm any longer) and a great story. Which I read much, much too quickly, as is the usual with Mr. Ellsworth’s books.

Looking forward to the next book, no matter which series it is from.
I make it a point of finishing a book once started, however this book is a waist of time. It was when I had read 51% of the book that you got to the murder request that was so ridiculous. Don’t bother!!
Up until now “Unspeakable Prayers” has been my favorite Ellsworth book. While they are both what you might call history type stories, they are very different in how they affect the feelings of the reader. I literally could not put “Lies She Never Told Me” down. There is a real flowing story that grips you and makes you live it as it unfolds. There just has to be some first hand or seriously researched knowledge of most of the facts and actions that make up this story, you just can’t dream this up.
Great book as usual. I have read all of John Ellsworth's books and he never disappoints.
This one was interesting because you saw Michael Gresham as a young man.
You are introduced to his family. His parents had a big influence on him. His Dad was an attorney and Michael worked for him before venturing out on his own. Mom taught him ethics.
We also find out how he meets his unconventional investigator Marcel. Marcel is with him in most of the books.
His Aunt played a big part in this book .
There is a lot intrigue, full of twists and turns. The book ended on a very interesting note.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and highly recommend.
It’s certainly not very polished. It appears that Ellsworth cranks out about 5 novels a year - an ambitious pace for anyone! I suspect that at such a torrid pace attention to detail, plot development and sentence structure suffer. An example comes early in the novel and actually made me laugh almost like a SNL skit.
“Knowles was satisfied in his professional life but disappointed with himself in his personal life. ‘I’m disappointed’ he whispered in the kitchen pantry...”. Frankly, the whole novel rambled on like this right to the end. Oh well, Ellsworth is off my must read list.
John Ellsworth never fails to grab you in his first chapter! Lies She Never Told Me was no exception.
Luckily, after the first breathless one, you have a couple of calm chapters learning about the two main characters from the first.
There’s a lot of information about the crime scene in Chicago. Enough to make me happy that I live in a small town far from there.
I loved seeing how Michael Gresham came to be a lawyer. His search for a killer, after a half promise to an aunt, was a thrilling chase. I recall reading about the horrific case, but didn’t know the outcome. I don’t know if the book is true to the facts, but it sure made for exciting reading!!!
The concept was good. The book was not edited for timeline consistency. I kept having to re-read previous sections due to failure to keep to a plausible sequence of events. Spoilers, just three but many more. Knowles is elected in November 1932, they have no children but then claim that the baby was born in Jy 1932? Martha firsts asks Michael to kill Dotty before he is deployed for Desert Storm in 1990, he said he would look into it in when he returns. Then the story claims it is 2006 and he says he had been a lawyer for 5 years (he graduated law school in 1985). Finally Martha would have been 105+ years old at the time of the trial in 2012.
