Fatal Infatuation ALMOST HUMAN ~ The First Trilogy ~ Volume 1 eBook Melanie Nowak
When I started reading Fatal Infatuation I was really excited to have found another new series. For the most part I did enjoy this book.Felicity is a freshman in college. This is a fresh start for her. She's hoping to reinvent herself. Become the person she was always too shy to be in high school. She moves into her own dorm room and finds a great job at a local bookstore. She is astonished when she and her co-worker, Ben are attacked by vampires while they're walking home from work one evening.
This is where Felicity has her first encounter with Cain. He sees the attack happen and comes to the rescue.
From here on out, Felicity and Cain are drawn to each other. Although Cain feels like he could lose control where Felicity is concerned, he manages to keep it together. He continues to see her and keep her safe from the other vampires in town.
The writing style was a bit different for me. Each chapter was dedicated to different characters. I thought it made the story a bit choppy and harder to follow. Also, it seemed to drag things out for longer than necessary. I would just start getting back into the story. My heart would start getting jittery........and then all of a sudden I'd find myself a bit on the bored side and skimming to get back to the good stuff.
All in all, I did enjoy the book. I'm glad that I picked it up and I'll continue on with the series. I'm hoping that the next installment will hold my interest a bit more. And a little more romance certainly wouldn't hurt either.

Fatal Infatuation ALMOST HUMAN ~ The First Trilogy ~ Volume 1 eBook Melanie Nowak Reviews
I positively LOVED LOVED LOVED this book! When I first read Fatal Infatuation it grabbed my attention and heart unlike any story I read before. Since then I've read volumes two and three and consider myself an Almost Human junkie for life. Fatal Infatuation kept me reading until the wee hours of the morning just to see what happened next!
Melanie Nowak has created a wonderful world that is all her own, while merging many different genres in the process. She is definitely one of my favorite authors. It's obvious she took great care in developing the plot and awesome characters, (Cain, Felicity, Ben, Allie, Sindy, etc...) under a plethora of wit and imagination.
If you are a reader who loves vampires, romance, mystery, humor and suspense then you've certainly come to the right place. Ms Nowak penned a world that just keeps getting better and better. By the time you finish volume three you won't want the story to end. But don't worry, volume four - Born to Blood in the second trilogy is available and it is fantastic! I won't say anymore least I spoil any surprises. I have relatives in Italy who loved the first trilogy and are addicts as well. In addition, I've recommended Almost Human to other paranormal genre readers and they too are hooked.
I'm really looking forward to continuing this great roller coaster ride with all its twists and turns. I suggest you buy all three volumes and taste the venom for yourself! But don't say I didn't warn you... this stuff IS addicting. Happy reading!
This book was better than I expected honestly. I don't have a lot of experience reading indie authors, and was pleasantly surprised! The book had a good flow and the characters are solid and well thought out.
Felicity was (to me) a very realistic college student and the college setting seemed perfect. Possibly my favorite aspect of the book was the school, meeting of classmates/coworkers, and dorm life. Unlike the Morganville Vampires series (whose first book I was unable to finish), the setting is exactly how I remember college and other than the lack of a roommate (not sure that ever happens!) everything was entirely believable.
Ben and Alyson were probably my two favorite characters. I loved their friendship and that they were mostly realistic about a vampire threat. If I had a friend who fell in love with the wrong person (in this case a vampire of course) I think I'd behave exactly how Ben has. He also seems very multidimensional and well fleshed out. Alyson is able to be silly and serious at the right times and really shone through to me.
My least favorite character has to be Cain. There were some aspects of him I truly enjoyed, like the relationship he has with Sindy for example. I did think that his drama with Felicity, however, was unbelievable at most times. He's a bit too "emo" for my tastes. Perhaps its being able to see his side of the story that puts me off a bit, because he definitely loses the tough, mysterious image that is portrayed in the beginning as soon as you get to see inside his head. Rather than being able to think that he's truly falling in love with Felicity, all I can pick up is that he's lonely and therefore wants human companionship and Felicity will do because she doesn't treat him like a vampire. Not very romantic in my eyes.
My biggest problem was definitely all the editing errors. I'm sure this was out of the author's hands and so it doesn't reflect upon her, but whoever is in charge of publishing these should do a better job in checking for errors. Its very difficult to stay inside the story when you're constantly bumping into grammatical problems!
Overall, very entertaining read and I will be following up with the next book. I started out by reading the sample (I'm glad these are made available now) and purchased the rest of the novel as soon as I finished it. Great job by a beginning author, and I look forward to seeing how the story progresses.
