123 Peas The Peas Series Keith Baker Books

This is a great counting book for a kid who's ready to move beyond ten. There are so many counting books out there to teach a kid to count to 10! But what then? All those "funny" teens in between 11 and 20 are a challenge for a little kid. Why not a book that handles those as well? 1-2-3 Peas is perfect for this. There are pages for 1 through 10, a single page for 11 to 19, and then double pages for 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90 and 100. On each page, the author has adorable pictures of the appropriate number of peas. Yes, that means he painted 100 peas for the last double page. Even I as an adult enjoy looking at all the fun pea pictures and counting them up with my daughter.

Keith Baker has a number of beautifully illustrated books, but it's possible this one is my favorite.

123 Peas The Peas Series Keith Baker Books Reviews

I really liked the idea behind these books and a lot of the images are really cute. However the board books are too small to appreciate the illustrations. The text is also difficult to read. I returned them.
I purchased this book for my daughter, for her day care center, and as party favors for her first birthday party. This book has been a huge success with everyone!!! Many parents have told me how much they have enjoyed reading it with their children and how well their children respond to it. 1-2-3 peas is well written, with a pleasing and upbeat rhythm. The artwork is also fun and showcases the peas doing many fun activities with little details adult readers are sure to find humorous as well. This book is a great tool for both children getting introduced to numbers as well as kids who are learning to or recently learned to count. It is also a great option for early readers as the rhythm and language are inviting for those practicing their new reading skills. I highly suggest this very engaging book!!!
My 1 year old son has suddenly become interested in numbers. He loves this book, much more than LMNO-Peas. He asks me to read it to him all the time. Every time I get to 8 he says "Eight! Eight!" He loves the rhyming and the colorful pages. I don't thing he understands counting yet, he just likes the sound of the numbers and is recognizing them from hearing them over and over. But this book is really cute and will come in handy when he's ready to understand counting.
I ordered the "1-2-3 Peas" book for my 3 year old grandson, as well as to use for the kindergartners who read to my therapy dogs. It's a hit, for sure, but many of the kids ask if I also have the "MNOPeas" book, the first one in this series. The idea of using (vegetable) "peas" as the "P" in the alphabet is so cute, and the kids just think the idea is the funniest thing in the world! That being said, there is nothing wrong with "1-2-3-Peas" - it's a very good book for young children who are learning to count. I have to say that the kids who are familiar with "MNO Peas" are more likely to choose this "1-2-3 Peas" book, than those kids who have not previously seen the charming little "pod" of peas.
For some reason, the author has chosen to skip the numbers between 11 and 20. There are wonderfully colorful illustrations of the "Peas" for 1 through 10, but 11-20 get just one page of "Peas." After that, the numbers advance by tens. Most three year olds of my acquaintance can count up to 20, so it's a bit of a let down when 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18 and 19 don't rate a page. I do like the idea of counting by tens after the number 20, since I think many kids would get bored counting every number in between, and it might be repititous for adult ears, as well!
All in all, I do really like this book and highly recommend it. The "Peas" could not be cuter, and the kids just love counting all the "Peas" in their various action modes. It's just my opinion that "MNOPeas" is a little bit more charming and the kids seem to like it just a little bit more than "1-2-3 Peas." I highly recommend this book for kids who are learning to count, and even for kids a little bit older since it's such a fun book. If the numbers 11-20 were included, I would have given the book 5 stars. I'd strongly recommend purchasing both books, "MNOPeas" and "1-2-3 Peas" as a set for any child learning the alphabet, and numbers.
These books are so cute and fun! The illustrations have so much detail and bring so much life and personality to each pea. My 18 month old daughter loves to look at them and talk about what they're doing, which is why I RECOMMEND BUYING THE LARGER HARDCOVER VERSION. It's well worth the price difference to be able to easily see each pea without having to bring it closer to your face (which makes it harder to read together). We love this book, it will make a great addition to your little one's library!
These peas are just so much fun and you can read it over and over (which you will be) without wanting to smash your head into a wall! Beautiful illustrations and a fun little lady bug to spot on each set of pages. We typically buy all of the books in the series in a board book option for all of the baby showers we attend. We also have copies of each for our car, as well as the house. Everyone in our family, less our new babies, has this book memorized.. which has helped greatly with toddlers learning to count!!

A simply awesome addition to your kiddy library!
Perfect! My 2year old son loved "1-2-3 peas" from the library so much that we had to get a copy for our home book collection. This board book is perfectly sized for little hands. It is a counting book but also a great book for repetition and my son enjoys chanting words such as "rush rush rush" and "brush, brush, brush". The illustrations are adorable and the length is just right for your pre-nap or pre-bedtime routine. I recommend this for the 1-3 year old crowd. It would make a great birthday, Christmas present or even a baby shower present.
